Fonda Lorraine Seegmiller
September 6, 1927 ~ August 19, 2012
Fonda Lorraine Seegmiller, 84, of St. George, passed away August 19, 2012 at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 6, 1927 in Neola, Utah, to Walter Newport Wimmer and Zella Ludean Keel Wimmer. She attended West High School in Salt Lake City. She married Wendell Gifford Seegmiller on April 23, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS temple. They moved to Springdale, Utah in 1957, then Rockville, Utah in 1959, where they raised their family. Lorraine then moved to St. George in 1981 to be near her children after Wendell passed away.
Lorraine was a talented singer, musician, artist and writer of children’s plays. She wrote many Christmas plays for Springdale Elementary School, and many cute poems and stories. She loved telling stories to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Wendell taught their children to love music and they shared many good times playing and singing together.
Lorraine was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and though failing health prevented her from attending church for the last several months, she would recite scripture, name the presidents of the church and listen to videos of church history, etc. She loved her Savior dearly and set a loving example for those who knew her well.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wendell, grandsons Matthew and Rhett Hale, and six brothers and sisters. She looked forward to her “graduation” from this life and has undoubtedly moved on to bigger and better things. She is survived by her two sons, Kent (Dona) Seegmiller, and Terry (Jo) Seegmiller and her daughter Gayle (Arthur) Hale, all of St. George, a sister, Ravola Whittle of Ferron, Utah, 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all of them.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the LDS Chapel located at 550 E. 700 S., St. George. A viewing will be held Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the Chapel. Interment will take place in the St. George City Cemetery.
The family would like to express appreciation to the St. George 4th ward for all who were loving friends to our mom for the past 30 years, and to the St. George 9th ward for adopting and loving her this past 16 months. Also to very kind and caring hospice workers with Intermountain Healthcare, who gently served Mom the last few days of her life.
Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, (435) 673-2454. Friends may sign her guestbook at www.spilsburymortuary.com.
