William R. Jarrett

William R. Jarrett (Bill), age 93, passed away peacefully on August 22nd, 2012, at his home in Salt Lake City. Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was greatly loved and will be missed by many.

Bill Jarrett was born September 20th, 1918, in Nephi, Utah to Robert Ronald and Ellen Olpin Jarrett. He was the second oldest in a family of 10 children. He grew up in Nephi and completed high school there. He served in the US Army Air Force, and was stationed in Australia during part of World War II. He met his “sweetie” Elaine in Washington DC and was married in the Salt Lake Temple June 10th, 1946, a marriage that has lasted for 66 years. Bill graduated from Utah State University having studied industrial arts and taught school for 32 years in the Salt Lake School District. He served as the Bishop of the Rose Park 3rd Ward and after retirement Bill and Elaine served an LDS mission in Nauvoo, Illinois in 1984-85.

He has four children, Ron Jarrett (Lucie), Craig Jarrett (Kim), Camille Payne (Roger), Connie Johnson (Rick), 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He loved telling stories to his grandchildren, he also loved the mountains and the outdoors and had a real talent working with his hands and was always making or building things. One of his greatest enjoyments was spending time at the cabin he built in the mountains near Strawberry Reservoir.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Melva and brothers Maurice, Thayne, Elmo, Carl, and Kent. He is survived by his brothers Dee Jarrett (LaRae), Robert Jarrett (Carolyn) and sister Elda Memmott (Dewayne). Appreciation is expressed for all those that have helped provide Bill with loving care and to all those who have shared their love and concerns for Bill during his final time here.

A viewing will be held at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, on Sunday, August 26th from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Rose Park LDS Church meeting house (east chapel), 1152 West 800 North, in Salt Lake on Monday, August 27th at 11:00 a.m., where friends and family may visit from 9:45 -10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
