John William Opfar

January 24, 1945  ~  August 28, 2012

John William Opfar returned to his Heavenly Father peacefully on August 28, 2012, after a long battle with many health issues and a short battle with cancer. Born January 24, 1945 in Elizabeth, PA to William David Opfar and Virginia Rebecca Field. Married Ann Claus, February 12, 1965, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Worked as a mechanic at Greyhound, PIE, and CF. He was a hard worker, great handy-man, and devoted to his family. He was always available to anyone needing him, always putting their needs ahead of his own. Totally unselfish, dependable, strong, smart, loving and kind.
Survived by wife Ann, son Kelly (Cyndi), daughters, Kathy Mikesell, Jessica, and Heidi, grandchildren, Madison Opfar, Joshua Severe, Tanner Mikesell, Zavon Jackson, and Taysia Jackson, and great-granddaughter Khailar Morris. Viewing at Pioneer Stake, 1400 West 700 South, in Salt Lake on Friday, August 31 from 6-8pm, with a second viewing Saturday, September 1 at Lake Hills Memorial Mortuary, 10055 South State Street in Sandy from 1-2pm. Graveside services will follow at 2pm.
