Lael Merryweather Dotson

Lael Merryweather Dotson, 85, our beloved mother and grandmother died on November 20, 2012 at home in Springville, Utah.
Lael was born February 4, 1927 in Cedar City, Utah to William Mark and Ida Lovina Ellison Merryweather. She married her eternal sweetheart, Richard Wilson Dotson on October 1, 1947 in the St. George Temple. Lael and Dick have three children, 10 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Lael grew up in Cedar City, Utah where she graduated from Cedar High School. She received an Associate’s Degree in Home Economics from Branch Agricultural College, now Southern Utah University, in Cedar City, Utah.
Lael has been an active and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints her entire life. She has served in many capacities, many of them in the Primary Organization. In her later years, her greatest enjoyment came from serving in the temple. She served in the Provo Temple for many years. Lael and Dick served a mission in the Manila, Philippines Temple 1995-1996.
Lael’s life has been focused on service to others. She was a wonderful homemaker and her main goal was to serve her husband and family. She shared her testimony through her examples of service in many forms. She also worked as Cedar High Secretary for many years with additional years at Parowan High School.
Lael was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick and her son Richard Merryweather. Lael is survived by her children: Christine (Robert) of Sandy, Utah; Paul (Wendy) Dotson of St. George, Utah and Rick’s wife Julene of Florissant, Missouri. Her ten grandchildren are Robert (Wendy) Heywood, Ryan (Julie) Heywood, Jeff (Holly) Dotson, Randen (Heather) Heywood, Jon (Sherie) Dotson, Camille (Shawn) Austin, Sara (Logan) Reid, Joysanne (Sam) Green and Kathryn Lael Dotson. Lael is also survived by 27 wonderful great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am December 1, 2012 in Springville, Utah.
Viewing will be begin at 10:00 am at the LDS Chapel on 600 East 245 South.
Interment will be in Cedar City Cemetery, on Monday, December 3 at 1:00 pm.
