Joy Ann Huber, age 79, entered the presence of the Lord on January 25, 2013. She passed away at home in Provo, Utah, surrounded by her family. Joy was born on April 9, 1933 in Anaheim, California to Donald and Margaret McCollum. All who knew her said she truly lived up to her name!
Joy grew up in Southern California and graduated from Downey High School in 1951. After high school she went to work for the FBI in Washington, DC as a secretary where she worked for 1 year. She then worked many years as a clerk in retail before becoming a secretary at Ingold Chapel Funeral Home in Fontana, California for 22 years before retiring in 1998.
Joy was a member of Sunrise Church in Rialto, California where she lived before moving to Utah 5 years ago and becoming a member of CenterPoint Church in Orem, Utah. She loved Jesus, her family, her friends and everyone who crossed her path. Her smile was as “big as the moon”! She enjoyed attending church, shopping, Bible studies, Red Hat club, cake decorating, shopping, crafting, traveling, doing puzzles, shopping, collecting antiques, Hallmark ornaments, miniatures, shopping, hosting parties, gift giving, slurpees, and SHOPPING! Joy was also a big fan of the LA Angels’ baseball team along with Bloomington (CA) High School football team. She was also the head cheerleader of events that her family members participated in: sports, programs, dance, etc.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Don (age 91) and Margaret (age 87), who were married for 68 years in California.
Joy is survived by her daughter, Candi (Dan) Grinder of Provo, UT; step-daughter, Becky (Tim) Crafts of Mariposa, CA; step-son, Dick (Cindy) Huber of Awahnee, CA; sister, Caroline (George) Haruff of Rescue, CA; cousin, Marilyn Sturdivant of Hemet, CA and her family; grandchildren, Karrah (Rick) Phillips of Christiansburg, VA; Kelcey Grinder of Provo, UT; Keanna (Chris) Allen of Spanish Fork, UT; Tawni (Josh) Prien of Merced, CA; Lindsey Crafts of Fresno, CA; great-grandchildren, Kamden, Kyleigh, Kaden, Kaeson, Katie and Koralyn; nieces, Kimberly Gish-Baker of Shingle Springs, CA and Kelly (Martin) Cordova of Cameron Park, CA; and great-nephews, Brandon, Nathaniel and Joshua Cordova and Cameron Gish along with great-niece, Korinna Gish; ex-husband, Lee (Susan) Ritter of South Jordan, UT; ex-husband, Bob Huber of CA; Joy is also survived by many other ex-relatives that she held dear to her heart.
A “Celebration of Joy ’s Life” will be held at the CenterPoint Church Auditorium, 280 S 400 E in Orem, UT (across from Orem High School) at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 2nd. This will be a casual event, and those that desire can wear her favorite color ~ purple. Her body will be laid to rest in the Lindon City Cemetery in Lindon, UT at a private service.
A special thank you to all family and friends who have offered an abundance of love, prayers and support since Joy ’s stroke in 2011. Her family also especially thanks her doctors (Duros, Ford and Landau) and the care-giving teams at Orem Rehab, Petersen Medical and Encompass Health Care and Hospice for the amazing care they gave to Joy over this past year ~ what a blessing you all are!
In lieu of flowers and because her “language of love” was gift giving, the family requests that a gift be given to someone in need, in her honor.
