Leone Nelson Christensen
April 24, 1922 ~ July 22, 2013
Leone Christensen, the daughter of Guy H. and Thora E. Kofoed Nelson, was born in Weston, Idaho, April 24, 1922. She attended elementary school in Weston and Preston, Idaho and graduated from Logan High School, in Logan, Utah. She lived through the boom of the 1920s, the uncertainty of the Great Depression, and married Cloyd L. Christensen during the early years of WWII. She raised her family in Providence, Spanish Fork, and Provo, Utah. In later years she lived in Beaverton, Oregon, and Sandy, Utah.
Leone was a life-long, dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a visiting teacher, primary teacher, a member of the Relief Society, and a great support to her husband as he fulfilled his many church leadership callings. And most of all, she was a loving and nurturing mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She put great store in her family and relished the time she could spend with them. She wanted nothing more from life than to have a righteous posterity. She taught them to love the Lord and each other and to follow the living prophet. She set the spiritual example for her children and grandchildren by living the precepts of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Leone had many health challenges throughout her life, but she was always upbeat and determined to find a way to keep moving forward. Because of increasing health issues, she moved to the Charleston in Cedar Hills, Utah, in 2006 and was grateful for the excellent care given to her there and enjoyed making new friends.
Leones keen presence of mind, common sense, and enduring faith carried her through all the challenges and opportunities in her life. She was an unyielding source of wise counsel and loving comfort for her posterity.
Leone passed away on July 22, 2013 at the age of 91. Her husband, Cloyd, and one grandchild, Christine Jones, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her 7 children: Byron Christensen (Patricia), Robert Christensen (Kathleen), Merilyn Lee (Don), Joy Lynn Jones (Art), Mark Christensen (Sandy), Kent Christensen (Darcy), and Quin Christensen (Cindy); 35 grandchildren and over 70 great grandchildren.
