1923 – 2011

Arizona Cowboy, Loy Melford Clingman, returned to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, Feb 20, 2011 while his wife and grandchildren were at his side. He was born April 8, 1923 in William, AZ to Hugh & Claudia Nix Clingman. He married Hassie P. Kern.

One of Loy's greatest accomplishments was his 37 years of school teaching to 4th and 6th graders. Many of his students kept in touch with him year after year. He taught mainly in the Arlington and Grand Canyon School Districts.

He was a musician, cowboy poet and a song writer. He will always be remembered for his contribution to early rock-a-billy and was honored in the AZ Rock-a-billy hall of fame. Loy had a recording business VIV Records and helped to launch the careers of some of the most recognizable C.W. Legends. He always had a story to tell and a song to sing, but it was his generous heart that defined him.

Survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 60 years, Hassie Pearl, brother Keith “Bub� Clingman, daughter-in-law Leslie, 5 grandchildren and 8 little monkeys shakin' a tree (great-grandchildren).

Preceded in death by his son Robert Tollison and brother Darrell “Skeet� Clingman.
We wish to express our gratitude to the Millcreek hospice nurses and to the nurses and CNA's for their kindness as they cared for Loy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the LDS Church at 10115 So. Yorkshire Dr. in South Jordan, UT.

Friends may call Friday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the Broomhead Funeral Home 12600 So. 2200 W. Riverton, UT and 1 hour prior to services at the church.

Interment South Jordan Cemetery.
