
John Harvey Germain

John Harvey Germain, age 92, passed away April 21, 2012, in St. George, Utah. He was born April 28, 1919, in Columbus, Ohio, to John Harvey and Hazel Swann Germain. He married Phyllis Treat Otto on August 28, 1946.
John (Jack) grew up in Drexel Hill, PA, and attended Upper Darby High School. He graduated from Penn State University where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity and played on the baseball team. He earned a degree in electrical engineering and attended MIT while in the army.
Noted for analytical thinking and problem solving, he served in management for gas and electric utility companies. He ended his career as a vice president for the Texas Eastern Pipeline Corp. in Houston, TX.
He was a talented musician and sports fan. He loved to play golf and was proud to be in a family of champion golfers.
Of himself he wrote, "If I can be remembered as a decent person who worked pretty hard to provide a good home in a proper atmosphere for my family, I can't ask for more."
He will be remembered in this way. His family adds he was a devoted and generous husband, father and grandfather.
We will miss him.
Surviving family include his wife, Phyllis Germain of St. George, UT; children, Dorothy Germain of Randleman, NC, Margie (Ed) Carter of Fairfax Station, VA, John S. (Diane) Germain of Port Ludlow, WA, Barbara (Mark Branson) Germain of Julian, NC; grandchildren, Lindsay, Megan, Kristen, Jill, Tommy and Anna; and sister, Dorothy, Porter of Cinnamonson, NJ. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wilbur Germain.
