Gary Lee Caldwell

Gary Lee Caldwell, 55 of Salem, Arkansas, was born on March 29, 1956, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was the adopted son of Nolen Baker and Deon (Baird) Caldwell. He departed this life on August 18, 2011, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Missouri from complications following coronary bypass surgery.
Gary served an LDS mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah, from 1975 to 1977; and was an active member of the Ash Flat Branch in Arkansas.
He began his law-enforcement carreer for Little Rock Police Department; retired as a lieutenant after 20 years with American Fork Police Department; and in January, 2011, retired as a sergeant after 10 years with Utah Highway Patrol.
He and his wife had recently relocated in Salem, Arkansas, on the family farm. He was currently working as a deputy/investigator for the Fulton County Sherrif's Office.
He will be remembered for his engaging smile, laughter and soft spoken southern drawl. He was an avid outdoorsman participating in hunting, dirtbiking, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, motorcycle riding and recently, driving his tractor.
Gary was united in marriage to Ruth Ann (Ward, Hansen) on October 7, 1998, at Orem, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his son Jacob Caldwell and his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Caldwell of Salem, Arkansas; sons, Robert Caldwell (Rebecca) of Salem, Oregon, Lee Caldwell (Emily) of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; Casey Caldwell of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; daughter Katelin Caldwell of American Fork, Utah; and grandson Aryean Caldwell of Salem, Oregon. Other survivors include his step children Brady Hansen (Jenny) of Lehi, Utah; Nicholas Hansen of Salt Lake City, Utah; Mathew Hansen of Salt Lake City, Utah; Rebecca Smith (Sterling) of Vernal, Utah and granddaughter Adalyn Hansen of Lehi, Utah. Brothers and sisters are Debra Haskin of Sherwood, Arkansas; William B. Caldwell (Jennifer) of Swifton, Arkansas; Patti Groves (Robert) of Floyd Knob, Indiana; Barbara Anderson (Charles) of Laguna Hills, California; and Terry Hendershott of Portland, Oregon.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Alpine Tabernacle, 110 East Main, American Fork, UT.
